The industry’s appetite for hiring for AI roles is growing, with cities in India and the US hotspots, according to GlobalData.

The proportion of food manufacturers hiring for positions related to artificial intelligence rose significantly in January compared with the equivalent month last year, according to fresh analysis of job trends by GlobalData.

Some 35.8% of the companies included in GlobalData’s analysis were recruiting for at least one such position in the opening month of 2022, up from the 24.7% of manufacturers who were hiring for AI-related jobs in January 2021. In December last year, the figure stood at 34.9%.

Asia-Pacific was the fastest-growing region for the hiring for AI jobs by food manufacturers in the three months ending January.

The number of roles in Asia-Pacific made up 20.1% of total AI jobs – up from 16.9% in the same quarter of 2021.

That was followed by South & Central America, which saw a 0.8 year-on-year percentage point increase.

The fastest-growing country in terms of AI job ads was India, which accounted for 16.3% of postings in the three months ending January 2022, up from 11.1% in the corresponding period of 2021.

That was followed by the Netherlands (up 4.3 percentage points), the United Kingdom (up four points), and Mexico (up 1.3).

Overall, the top country for AI roles in the food industry was the US, which made up 32.2% of all postings advertised in the three months ending January.

Some 7.7% of all food-industry AI roles were advertised in the Indian city of Bengaluru. The US city of Plano accounted for the same proportion of ads, followed by Chicago with 4.3% and Hyderabad in India with 3.1%.

AI is one of the topics GlobalData says it has identified as being a key disruptive force facing business. Companies that excel and invest in these areas now are thought to be better prepared for the future business landscape and better equipped to survive unforeseen challenges.
